Merged to master as 08ca5ba, thanks.  I removed Qt4 support in a lead-
up commit and made a few trivial style changes.

It seems to work in gtk3 and qt5 at first glance, though it looks like
Qt and plugins (or at least sherlock) don't agree on the
interpretation...
