For the gain reduction case it would be way nicer if the host can draw 
some kind of inline meter, while the plugin provides information about 
the scale and just sends the values to the host.

That way meters would look consistent in the mixerstrip (or where ever 
this is drawn) and the plugin developer has one less thing to worry about.
